Hunger Action Month
September is Hunger Action Month, and we’re asking you to take action to fight domestic hunger. The need in our community is tremendous – but so is the impact that you can have.
There are many ways you can take a stand.
Click on our 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar and find daily ways to fight hunger. Each daily “way” is easy, doable and impactful.
The Food Bank has also planned several events and classes that you could attend during the month.
- Hunger Wipeout Obstacle Challenge: A Summer Tumbler to end Childhood Hunger.
- Rain Barrel Troubleshooting Class: Sept 19th, 6-8pm, at the Food Bank’s Teaching Garden & Pavilion. The cost is $5. Master Gardener Jeff Jerrett will discuss rain barrel retrofit, setup & installation, and answer questions for those interested in or already own a rain barrel. Discussion will be followed by a rain barrel installation demo. To register email jmauldin@chattfoodbank.org.
Finally, some of our local businesses are doing month long food drives to help fill our pantry.
- Buff Salvage aka Junkyard Mafia: Bring in 5 non-perishable food items and receive an extra 5 cents per pound on aluminum cans. 9422 Lee Highway, Ooltewah, TN 37363 (423) 238-3444 or www.junkyardmafia.com.
- Weight Watchers: 1966 Northpointe Blvd in Hixson & 405 Shallowford Road
- Faurecia at 8005 Volkswagon Drive Suite 109
