This table is for everyone.

We rally support from our community, for our community, so that food is always within reach.

Why we’re here

Our mission is to lead a network of partners and unite the community to eliminate hunger by feeding, nourishing, and empowering those we serve.

When you think about your day tomorrow, what comes to mind first?

For 1 in 6 families in our area, it’s food. And it’s not just about experiencing hunger. It’s about knowing that food is readily available when you need it. We work for the 1 in 6 households unsure about where their next meal might come from. That’s 180,000 adults, seniors, and children across 20 counties in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. Through our robust network of partners, volunteers, and donors, we ensure that food reaches every person who needs it.

Our Core Values

01

No one should go hungry - food is a basic human right.

02

All people are worthy of dignity, compassion & respect.

03

The needs of those we serve guide how we do our work.

04

The greatest impact happens in collaboration.

05

Equitable access to quality food strengthens the community, empowers self-sufficiency and fosters hope.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide equitable access to food and resources to end hunger today and build pathways for a healthy, hungry-free future.

Our approach

Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion

Our goal is to recognize, support and invest in diversity, equity, access and inclusion in all aspects of our business; internally with our staff, board and volunteers and externally with our network of community partners and those seeking our services.
At the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, we recognize the existence of inequities that can create and perpetuate poverty and hunger. We are dedicated to providing equitable access to food and resources across our service area, in ways that value the people we serve, while building pathways for a healthy, hunger-free future for all.

We are committed to eliminating hunger in all of our communities. To better serve communities disproportionately affected by hunger, we must ensure that voices from these communities are represented in our governance and operational processes. We will prioritize diversity, equity, access and inclusion and will seek out, listen to and empower community representatives to best serve all who need our help.

Therefore, we commit to:
Develop and enhance our understanding of the needs and challenges in disproportionately impacted communities in our service area to provide equitable access to quality food;
Identify, engage and work with a broad range of community representatives in our operational processes;
Ensure that the voices of a diverse group of community representatives are valued and included in our decision-making and governance processes;
Increase access by investing in underserved communities; and
Hold ourselves accountable to achieve these commitments.

Advocacy at the Chattanooga Area Food Bank

Two months ago, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank hired its first Director of Advocacy – that’s me, and I feel so fortunate and eager to conquer the challenge of developing an advocacy program to advance the mission of this organization. But if you are like a number of the people that I’ve met in the last couple months, you may be wondering what exactly advocacy means in the food bank setting.
