Director of Philanthropy - Northwest Georgia

The Director of Philanthropy - NWGA will focus on fueling the CAFB mission through NWGA relationships and revenue. This person will manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors and will be expected to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward these individuals, corporations, organizations, and foundations.

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank (CAFB) is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented individual to join our dedicated team, build relationships, and connect donors with impact. Serving twenty counties with two locations in Chattanooga and one in Dalton, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank’s mission is to lead a network of partners and unite the community to eliminate hunger by feeding, nourishing, and empowering those we serve.

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank opened our first Georgia warehouse (Pierce Distribution Center) in Dalton in 2011, as part of a strategy to better serve our Northwest Georgia (NWGA)neighbors and community partners.  

This position will be primarily in-person at our Dalton location, with weekly travel to the Chattanooga warehouse and throughout the nine NWGA counties.

The Director of Philanthropy - NWGA reports to the Chief Development Officer and works collaboratively with the Development Team, CAFB Leadership team, Community Impact and Operations staff, as well as board members and volunteers.

The Director of Philanthropy - NWGA will focus on fueling the CAFB mission through NWGA relationships and revenue. This person will manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors and will be expected to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward these individuals, corporations, organizations, and foundations.

This Director will spend significant time meeting externally with individuals and organizations, building the CAFB’s visibility, impact and financial resources in the NWGA area. Additionally, this position is responsible for representing the organization in the community in various ways, including facility tours and speaking engagements.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with major gift and planned giving prospects and current donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, foundation, and organizational donors, ensuring a high-quality, mission-aligned donor experience. Monitor and analyze portfolio activity to meet annual fundraising goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors for operating, community impact, and endowment support, working independently and collaboratively with the team.
  • Prepare proposals, solicitation letters, invoices, and stewardship reports.
  • Partner with the Development Team to thank and steward donors.
  • Align with CAFB branding and communications internally and externally.
  • Maintain accurate donor and prospect records, documenting strategic moves and ensuring consistent use of donor management tools and best practices.
  • Assist with donor events, including major donor gatherings, marketing events, and planned giving activities (some evenings and weekends required).
  • Lead warehouse tours for prospective donors, volunteers, and guests, and follow up to encourage continued engagement.
  • Represent CAFB at external speaking engagements to build mission awareness and community relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years’ experience in fundraising; specifically cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strategic thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (especially Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), donor database or CRM such as Raiser’s Edge NXT, Canva (or similar)
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with attention to content accuracy and deadlines
  • Extrovert with sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to honor confidentiality
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, self-directed learner, creative problem-solver, and able to work independently as well as in a team-based environment
  • Energetic and passionate about our community and our mission to end hunger

Salary: $57,000 - $60,000 depending on experience.  

This position requires some travel, as well as occasional work outside of standard business hours. It is an in-office position located at our Pierce Distribution Center in Dalton.
